Newbie Quest Guide

"Going from 0 to 24 in 10800.8 seconds"

Introduction

This is a short guide listing the quests that will help you get to level 24 in only a few of hours. Newbie Guides in the game will also direct you to these, and so will some of the tutorial tips that pop up during your first levels, but this is a guide to raising your level as fast as possible. It's best to figure out what your destination is before you start your journey. Therefore, visit the Races, Classes and Skills page to read about all the different classes, and choose what you want to become at level 20 (at least). This will help the guide move faster, and adapt you to the appropriate playstyle as you progress.

Newbie Guides are NPCs that were added to Lineage II in the Chronicle 3 update. If you talk to the Newbie Guide as soon as you start a new character, they will give you particular quests that will give you extra experience, extra money, and helpful items. They also offer magic buffs that last for 1 hour, and teleportation to beginner villages.

This guide will not explain the interface, so if you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with it, please use the Tutorial Guide and the Lineage II New Player Guide on the website. If, along the way, you need further help finding what or who you're looking for, try using a combination of all the resources: the guide, the in-game map (look for the gold pin), and the quest window.

Overall tips:
  • Always have all spiritshots / soulshots in your hotbar and activated.
  • Use healing potions (when you receive them) as necessary.
  • Never leave town without the Newbie Support Magic buffs (levels 6+, and an additional spell at 16+)
  • Pick up everything that drops from monsters.
  • Always have some kind of teleportation scroll. Buy Scrolls of Escape at any Grocery Store, or use the Kamael Village Teleportation Scrolls, and then Gatekeeper-bounce to where you need to go.
  • When you attack a monster, any monsters of the same type that are closeby to it will come and attack you as well. Use this to your advantage by picking out the odd ones before the groups.

This guide will give instructions based on global direction (for example: go South). Therefore you must be comfortable using your compass radar at the top right of your screen. If you want North to always be at the top of the compass, click on the hammer icon, you'll find an option called "Fixed Radar," which will do this for you.

Lastly, while following this guide, don't waste any time buying/selling items, visiting your warehouse, or picking up additional quests. You won't need to buy anything until level 20, and you can sell whatever items you want to get rid of then. The only shopping trips you'll be making will be to get skills with your Skill Points.

All that being said, you are now ready to speed your way to level 24. If you follow all the instructions in this guide exactly, you should be there within 3 hours! Time to buckle in and hold on!

Level 1 — Welcome to Lineage II

Talk to Newbie Helper.

Kill a Gremlin.

You are now level 2.

Pick up the Blue Stone.

Talk to Newbie Helper, then talk to the NPC next to them. Click the option other than Quest.

Click on "I will go to the Isle of Souls" or "I will go to the Kamael." (* If you are Kamael, you will have to run to the town. Leave the Gremlin room and follow the road East, then South, and then Southeast to enter town. You will see the Newbie Guide on the left.)

You are now in the Kamael Village.

Talk to Newbie Guide.

Run South through the village, down some stairs, to Zerstorer Marcela, on the left.

Talk to Zerstorer Marcela, click Quest.

Click Supply Check, and "Say yes."

Run to the Warehouse (click on the Map icon to open map).

Talk to Warehouse Keeper "Benis", click Quest.

Return to Zerstorer Marcela.

Talk to Zerstorer Marcela, click Quest, click Supply Check.

Run to the Grocery Store (check map).

Talk to Trader "Nika", click Quest.

Return to Zerstorer Marcela.

Talk to Zerstorer Marcela, click Quest.

You are now level 5.

Return to the Newbie Guide and double-click on him.

You are now level 6.

You now have a wooden armor set in your inventory, you can receive Apprentice Shadow Weapons, and Support Magic from any Newbie Guide.

Click "Receive Apprentice Adventurer's Weapon Exchange Coupon."

Talk to Newbie Guide again.

* There is a small bug with this next part, which we are working on. Two of the links are switched. "Check the list of available supplement magic" will take you to the Shadow Weapons dialogue, and "Get help with a Newbie item" will take you to the Support Magic dialogue.

Click "Get help with a Newbie item", then click "Receive supplemental magic."

* You will want to have this magic on you at all times. If you die, talk to a Newbie Guide to get it again. Mouseover the buffs (top left) to see their timers. If, later on, you think the timer will run out while you're out of town, get the buffs again to fill the timers to max.

Click "Check the list of available supplement magic."

Click "Select a No-Grade Shadow Weapon." The weapon you pick is not terribly important during these early levels, but there are some suggestions:

Mystics:

  • Apprentice's Staff (better for casting only)
  • Bone Club (works well with both casting and hitting)

Fighters:

  • Shining Knife or Long Sword (you will have a free hand for a shield)
  • Cestus (dual punching weapons)
  • Forest Bow (you will need to buy or collect arrows)

Choose a weapon and click "Confirm".

Level 6 — Head for the Hills!

Run over to Zerstorer Marcela again.

Talk to Marcela, click Quest.

Click "Head for the Hills!" then scroll down and click "Say yes."

* The quest description tells you to collect 50 claws, but you only need to collect one to complete the quest, and get the Newbie bonus.

Run up the stairs and go East across the plaza to Gatekeeper Ragara.

Speak to Ragara, click "Move to a stronghold (free)", click "Stronghold I." (click Confirm).

You are teleported to a stone platform in the wilderness.

Head south until you see Green Goblins and Mountain Werewolves. They will not attack you right away, but if you attack one of them, nearby members of their type might come over and attack you along with your target. Best to kill one when it is further away from its kin.

Kill these monsters until you receive a Hills of Gold monster Claw. (This will open a quest update box at the top left.)

Open your inventory and use a Kamael Village Teleportation Scroll.

You are teleported back to the Kamael Village.

Return to Zerstorer Marcela.

Talk to Marcela, click Quest.

Click "Head for the Hills! (In Progress)", click "Exchange monster claws for Adena", click "Say no."

Return to the Newbie Guide.

Talk to the Newbie Guide.

You are now level 10.

Level 10 — Race-specific weapon quest

Now that you have acquired, completed, and turned in a couple of quests, this guide will cut-down the where-to-click instructions that are involved in receiving a quest. Basically, just keep clicking the responses in a dialogue window to receive a quest and say you will do it. All early quest dialogues follow the same format.

Click on your race in the table below:
Race Quest-giver NPC Name of Quest
Human Grand Magister Gallint Spirit of Mirrors
Elf Sentinel Kendell Skirmish with the Orcs
Dark Elf First Tetran Thifell Forgotten Truth
Orc Urutu Chief Hatos Merciless Punishment
Dwarf Collector Gouph Jumble, Tumble, Diamond Fuss
Kamael Hierarch Kekropus The Way of the Warrior
Spirit of Mirrors (Human)

Use the Kamael Newbie Guide to teleport to Talking Island Village.

First, learn new skills. If you're a fighter, go to the Warrior's Guild, choose a weapon skill that matches your weapon, and max it out. If you're a mage, go to Einhasad Temple and talk to a Magister. Maxing out Wind Strike is a good idea. Then use the rest of the points on Masteries such as weapon and armor mastery.

Talk to the Newbie Guide.

Exit town through the southeast gate and run southwest around the hill until you come to the Einhovant's School of Magic.

Talk to Grand Magister Gallint there.

He gives you 3 magical weapons and needs you to hunt 3 spirits with them.

Equip one of the three wands. You have to kill the spirits with the quest weapon, but you can use other spells or attack spells to weaken them (the quest weapon isn't very good).

Go west of the School and follow the river north.

When you get to the bridge, you should see a large toad called "Quest Monster Spirit of Mirrors".

All of the quest monsters are passive, but as you progress, watch out for the Orcs and Werewolves around them that will attack you.

Kill it with the quest weapon, get the quest update "You have earned Spiritbound Wand" in your Quest inventory.

From the toad, run North towards the Obelisk of Victory. Go up the hill Northeast of the obelisk.

Find the orc called "Quest Monster Spirit Of Mirrors" and kill it with the quest weapon.

From there, run Southwest. On the map, you'll see a road that goes southwest to the west coast. Watch out for Werewolves.

Follow the road through the waterfalls, and be careful of the spiders on the other side.

Run straight to the west coast, and then follow the edge north until it dips down to a shore.

Down there you'll see the Werewolf "Quest Monster Spirit Of Mirrors."

Kill it, and use a Scroll of Escape to return to town.

Go to Grand Magister Gallint and turn in the quest.

You are now level 11.

Run back to town and speak to the Newbie Guide. (*If you try to use a Scroll of Escape to leave the School of Magic, it won't worked, because it is considered a sanctuary.)

You are now level 15.

You have now received your race-specific weapon. Alas, the shadow weapons you're using during this guide are much better than the weapon you receive. But, hey! You're 15 now. You also got soulshots, echo crystals, and a few Lesser Healing Potion. Equip the potions to your hotbar.

Skirmish with the Orcs (Elf)

Talk to the Newbie Guide to teleport to the Elven Village.

Go into the raised building on the South side of town. Talk to the Masters or Magisters to learn some new skills. If you're a fighter, choose a weapon skill that matches your weapon, and max it out. If you're a mage, maxing out Wind Strike is a good idea. Then use the rest of the points on Masteries such as weapon and armor mastery.

Talk to Sentinel Kendell at the Southeast entrance.

Sentinel Kendell asks you to kill 2 particular orcs. Which two orcs will differ for every player. To see which one he assigns you first, click on the Quest tab in your inventory and look at the document there.

  1. Kaboo Chief Uoph. Leave town through the Southwest gate. Run Northwest over the big hill. He is beyond the dome-roofed ruins.
  2. Kaboo Chief Kracha. Leave town through the Southwest gate. Run South-by-southeast towards the 9 tall structures. He is by the smaller ruins right before the tall towers.
  3. Kaboo Chief Batoh. Teleport to the Elven Fortress, run up the hill to the Southeast.
  4. Kaboo Chief Tanukia - Leave town through the Southwest gate. On your map, he is below the crossroads that are below the "Elven Forest" words on your map, near some ruins. He comes with two wolves that are easy enough to kill once he is defeated.

Teleport back to town and talk to Sentinel Kendell again. The second part requires you to kill another orc. Here's the next list of orcs and their locations:

  1. Kaboo Chief Turel - He is by the ruins on the Northern bank of the Lake.
  2. Kaboo Chief Roko. Southwest exit, head to Iris Lake, he is located on the West shore, south of the ruins. He has two Warhound pets, they are all easy kills.
  3. Kaboo Chief Kamut. Teleport to the Elven Fortress and run Southeast to the South end of Lake Iris. He is South of the road.
  4. Kaboo Chief Murika. Leave town through the Southeast gate and continue South. On your map, he is just to the right the words "Iris Lake," on the East side of the road. He comes with two guard dogs that are easy to kill.

Return to Sentinel Kendell to complete the quest.

Talk to the Newbie Guide.

Forgotten Truth (Dark Elf)

Go to the Dark Elf Village and talk to the Newbie Guide.

Go to the Temple of Shilen (up the stairs) and talk to Tetrarch Thifell.

While you're here, talk to a Master or Magister to learn new skills. If you're a fighter, choose a weapon skill that matches your weapon, and max it out. If you're a mage, maxing out Wind Strike is a good idea. Then use the rest of the points on defensive spells and masteries such as weapon and armor mastery.

Go East out of town to the wilderness-Shilen Temple. (Yes there are two Shilen Temples. One is in town, and the other is East, outside of town. On your map, click the blue button to zoom out of the town view and you will see the other temple on the map.)

Talk to Abyssal Celebrant Kartia on the Southeast side.

Run back to town and return to Tetrarch Thifell.

Talk to the Gatekeeper to teleport to the Spider Nest.

Update your map point by opening your Quest window and clicking on "In Search of the Stolen Revelations", then check your map.

Run East towards the map point. Avoid the spiders.

Around the map point, you'll see the orcs you need, "Quest Monster Tumran Orc Brigand."

Kill the orcs until you get both your quest items.

Teleport back to town, and run over to wilderness-Shilen Temple again (the one that isn't in town).

Talk to Abyssal Celebrant Kartia to update the quest.

Return to Tetrarch Thifell in the Dark Elf Village.

You are now level 11.

Talk to the Newbie Guide.

Merciless Punishment (Orc)

Talk to the Newbie Guide to teleport to the Orc Village.

Talk to the Newbie Guide in the Orc village.

In the King's Hall, learn new skills. If you're an orc fighter, talk to a Prefect. Be sure you have learned all the levels of either Iron Punch (if you're using hand-to-hand weapons) or Power Strike (if you're using a sword), as well as Weapon Mastery. Equip the attack skill to your hotbar and make sure your soulshots are active.

If you're an orc mystic, talk to a Seer. Be sure you have learned all the levels of the Drain spell, equip it to your hotbar, and have your spiritshots and soulshots equipped and active.

Talk to Urutu Chief Hatos, in the King's Hall on a ramp going upstairs. Accept his quest.

Talk to Centurion Parugon at the North entrance of the village to update the quest.

Run South through town to the Gatekeeper and teleport to the Cave of Trials.

Run North along the road.

When you reach the bridge, go straight East up the hills.

You will see Quest Monster Baranka's Messenger surrounded by 5 Quest Monster Orc Escorts. They will not attack you.

If you are an Orc Mystic, follow these instructions:

Go up the ledge directly East and above them. This way you're sort of standing above Baranka's Messenger. The idea is that you can cast your spells from here, but they have to run around a bit before they can come up to attack you, which buys you time to cast more spells.

Target Baranka's Messenger. Make sure your Soul Cry, soulshots and spiritshots are all activated. Spam your Drain spell on the Messenger. As soon as the first one lands, they will start to run towards, you, but you will be able to kill him with 2 or 3 Drains, so just keep casting. Once he is dead, let the others kill you and get a free teleport back to town (XP loss at this level is not important). Be sure you get your Support Magic replaced by the Newbie Guide.

If you are an Orc Fighter, follow these instructions:

Go straight up to Baranka's Messenger and kill him with one or two Iron Punches or Power Strikes. When he's dead, you can either let the Escorts kill you for a free teleport back to town (XP loss at this level is not important). Don't forget to get your Support magic again.

Return to Urutu Chief Hatos, turn in your quest item, and click "Say you will continue".

Talk to the Gatekeeper to teleport to the Cave of Trials.

Find Baranka's Messenger again and kill him the same way you did before. You may have to wait for him to respawn, but it will be in the same spot you saw him last time.

After you kill him a 2nd time, return to the Orc Village and to Hatos.

He sends you to kill Baranka's Messenger a third and final time.

Teleport to the Cave of Trials and go kill the Quest Monster a third time, then then return to the Orc Village.

Talk to Hatos again to turn in the quest.

You are now level 11.

Talk to the Newbie Guide.

Jumble, Tumble, Diamond Fuss (Dwarf)

Teleport to the Dwarven Village.

Talk to Collector Gouph in the Bronze Key Guild (check map) and accept his quest.

Go to the Weapons and Armor Shop and talk to Trader Reep.

He tells you to go talk to Carrier Torocco. Go around the South side of the Warehouse building to access the area behind the building, and talk to Carrier Torocco there.

Run South out of town and follow the road West.

After a short distance you'll see Miner Bolter. Keep going and you'll come to Miner Maron.

Talk to him about the quest.

Run back to town and talk to Blacksmith Brunon in the Blacksmith's.

Accept his mini-quest about killing goblins.

While you're here, talk to a Blacksmith again to Learn Skills. You need to learn both Spoil and Sweeper before anything else. (To use them, cast Spoil on a monster and it will cause you to attack it. You must watch the chat window to see that 'Spoil condition is now activated.' If you don't see that message, the spell did not work, and you must cast it again. When a monster is successfully in Spoil condition, kill it, and then use Sweeper right after it dies. This will get you extra loot.)

Talk to the Gatekeeper to teleport to the Western Mining Zone.

Update your map pin by checking this latest step in your quest window.

From the teleporter's drop-off point, run West-by-Northwest, towards the map pin.

When you get to the pin area, you'll see the monsters you need.

Kill Goblin Brigand Lieutenants until you get all of your quest items.

Return to town and talk to Blacksmith Brunon again.

Talk to Collector Gouph again. Almost there!

Just kidding! Go back to Brunon.

Go to the Warehouse and talk to Warehouse Keeper Murdoc. (* There is a small known bug here. The Quest window description refers you to a "Freighter Murphrin", but the correct NPC is Warehouse Keeper Murdoc, so just ignore the Quest window for this step.)

In the same room, talk to Warehouse Keeper Airy about the quest.

Talk to the Gatekeeper to teleport to Western Mining Zone.

Same as before, run West-by-Northwest back to the area you were hunting in before.

This time kill Blade Bats until you get the quest update.

Return to Collector Gouph in town.

You are now level 11.

Talk to the Newbie Guide.

The Way of the Warrior (Kamael)

In the Kamael Village, go to the House of the Elders (check your map).

Learn your skills from the Masters on either side of the stairs, depending on your gender. Max out a weapon skill that matches your weapon, and spend the rest on Masteries.

Talk to Hierarch Kekropus (part-way up the stairs) and click on the quest "The Way of the Warrior."

Go through to dialogue all the way to accept the quest.

Run back to the Gremlin room that your character started in (follow the road West, North, West out of town).

Talk to Vice Hierarch Perwan and this quest.

Use a scroll of Teleportation to return to the Kamael Village.

Talk to Gatekeeper Ragara and teleport to Stronghold I.

From the Stronghold, run South to the first monster village.

Kill Mountain Werewolves until you get all 5 quest items.

Use a Kamael Scroll to return to town.

Run back to the Gremlin room again and talk to Vice Heirarch Perwan to turn in the quest items.

Return to town (run or use Kamael Scroll).

Go to the House of Elders and talk to Hierarch Kekropus.

Run back to the Gremlin room again (last time!).

Talk to Vice Hierarch Perwan again to update the quest.

Return to Hierarch Kekropus and talk to him.

Talk to the Gatekeeper to teleport to Stronghold II this time.

Follow the road South and Southwest until you see the first monster village.

The Werewolves here will attack you, so move slowly and try to only fight 1 monster at a time.

Kill all the Muertos bird-monsters that you see until you get all 10 quest items.

Return to town and talk to Hierarch Perwan.

You are now level 11-12.

Talk to the Newbie Guide.

Level 15 — Final Newbie Mission

There are different Final Newbie Missions for each race, but the Human quest is the easiest and fastest. You don't need to learn new skills for this quest, it is that easy! The skills you learns for the level 10 quest will suffice.

Go to Talking Island Village and talk to the Newbie Guide there.

Talk to Elias, nearby. Click Quest and accept the quest by clicking "Say that you'll help."

Speak to the Gatekeeper to teleport to Talking Island, Northern Territory.

Kill spiders until you get the quest update. They are mostly West and Southwest of the teleport drop-off point.

Kill Bugbear Raiders until you get 10 quest items. Keep your Quest inventory window open to help you keep track.

Use a scroll to return to town.

Turn in your quest items to Captain Bathis. You will receive a Coin of Lords. (* There is a small bug here, the quest notification may not indicate that you get a coin at this point. However by the end of these instructions you will have 3 Coin of Lords in your Quest inventory, and the quest can be finished proper regardless of this notification problem.)

Talk to the Gatekeeper to teleport back to Gludin.

Run into the Einhasad Temple and speak to High Priestess Levian about the quest. You must receive the "Einhasad's 2nd Temple Badge" quest item.

Run to the West Gate and talk to Captain Bezique about the quest. You must receive the "Gludio Guard's 2nd Badge."

Since you're already at the West gate, leave down and head South around the town wall.

Looking at your map, head straight for the words "Windmill Hill."

Kill Langk Lizardmen until you get 20 Lizardman's Totems. (Keep track in your Quest inventory window.)

Then go South by Southeast and kill Venomous Spiders and Arachnid Trackers as well. You must get 20 Venomous Spider Legs. The spider poison debuff can be pretty intense, so keep your healing potions handy.

Talk to the Gatekeeper to teleport to Gludio, and then talk to Gludio's Gatekeeper to teleport to the Ruins of Despair.

On your map, see the gold map pin. Run towards it (south through the town ruins). Watch out for all the monsters nearby, they are aggressive. The Zombie Warriors pack a punch, but they move slow (like Night of the Living Dead slow) so you can run away easily.

Find the Flame Salamander and talk to it.

The Salamander tells you to kill a ratman fighter. In your Quest window, find this latest step of the quest and click on it. This will update your gold map pin and show you were the ratmen are.

Go to that location and kill a Ratman Warrior (different name, correct monster). You should get the quest update after just one kill.

Kill them until you get the 2 quest items you need.

You need to collect all 100 Feather Ornaments.

* This does take a little while, but it will be a good time for you to get to know your new skills, and different shadow weapons. The Lizardmen are easier to kill at the North than the South of this little area, so when you level up move along the coast accordingly.

* Watch out for the Langk Lizardman Shaman's ranged attack, it hurts. If you see a Shaman nearby, kill him before anyone else, and only fight with him up close (even if you are a magic caster). That way he will only cast his close-quarters spell, which is much weaker than his long-distance spell.

* Remember, if your Support Magic expires, stop right there and go back to town for more!

Once you have the 100 items, return to Luis in Gludin.

Next talk to Magister Iris in the Einhasad Temple of Gludin.

After talking to Iris about the quest, go to Gludio.

Talk to Magister Rohmer of the Gludio temple.

Go back to Gludin and talk to Magister Iris again.

Teleport back to the Langk Lizardment Dwellings.

This time hunt only the Shamans and the Leaders (a bit southwest of the teleport drop-off point - go to the gold map pin). You need 50 "Tooth of Dragon." These are a lower drop rate than the Feather Ornaments you were seeking earlier. However, they do drop more often from Leaders than from Shaman.

Once you have 50 of the items, return to Magister Iris in Gludin.

After you turn in the quest, you'll have gained over a level's worth of XP. You should be 24 and some by now.

Go learn some new skills, and once again welcome to Lineage II!
