Sace Says: a Goddess of Destruction Blog

I always get excited when we publish a new batch of content on the Goddess of Destruction preview site. Mainly because I know more about it than you do at the moment, and I'm eager to share it with you because I think you'll like it, too! As the Goddess of Destruction update approaches, we are calling out to heroes and adventurers to fight against this evil and save the land of Magmeld, as well as all of Aden, from Shilen's grasp. We present to you two more Awakening Classes to choose from: the Feoh Wizard and the Tyrr Warrior.

While the Feoh Wizard can manipulate all of the elements to strike down foes as at distance, they are also resilient and resourceful when it comes to self-defense and evasion. The Wizard class does a great job at unifying all of the pre-Awakening mage classes and transforming them into an efficient multi-purpose role with an effective skill set. This is based on three facts: 1) as a mage, you have a ton of skills, some which you almost never use, 2) most mobs are weak to some element or another, and 3) the different pre-Awakening mage classes specialize in different elements. The result: you usually won't get a group or raid invite for a monster that's weak to something other than your element specialization, and your choice of hunting grounds is rather limited. Feoh Wizard saves the day by having 'stances.' A stance is like a toggle skill, and you have one for each of the four main elements. You also have various kinds of elemental attacks skills. Depending on what elemental stance you're on, your elemental skills will do that kind of damage. No more excessive, repetitive or useless skills clogging up your skill book and skill bar. Now you will be flexible and efficient in any zone and raid. Just switch stances and nuke onward!

By heavy contrast to the Wizard, the Tyrr Warrior plows down enemies by the handful using sheer force and brute strength inspired by feral animals. Warriors use something called Momentum (pre-GD known as Force Energy), a sort of charge-up skill that gives their punches more punch. The longer you fight, the more Momentum you accumulate, and the more damage your skills will do. Skills that use Momentum at cost include intense single-target attacks and debuff-type attacks for one or more enemies. Momentum paired with all the AoE skills that Warriors have means they'll be great at fighting multiple enemies continuously.

Me and Sapyros' feet <3

One of my favorite things about Lineage II is the lore. I know, you might be thinking: "Lore-schmore. It's just stories for people like D&D nerds that wear capes and speak Elvish fluently." Well, I don't wear a cape, speak Elvish, or read fantasy books, and I don't play board games with 20-sided dice (often) but the lore of Lineage II is way more interesting than I'd expected. With every game update, a little bit more is revealed and you start to notice that all of the characters, classes, races and places in-game seem more meaningful and alive. And instead of being walloped with entire volumes of lore from the very start of the game, the incremental reveals with each game update are not unlike archeologists and historians IRL who are uncovering more of our own world's history little by little. Now, in GD, we're learning a lot more about the Giants. They're the big guys that ruled the land of Aden before time was time. The origin of each of the eight Awakening Classes is tied to a Giant that stood out among its peers as a leader and hero. They have been dormant for millennia, but Shilen's awakening has triggered their own spirits to stir, and now they offer their powers to adventurers so that we may defend ourselves against her and prevent the destruction of the world. You can learn more about the Giants' role in the lore section of the Goddess of Destruction preview site. Don't worry, it's a short read and no cape is necessary.

Remember, Goddess of Destruction offers a lot more than just classes and lore. There are also bosses and zones and monsters, oh my! (And lots more, but we'll get to that later.) The whole region of Magmeld is new, and includes a peace-zone called the Ancient City of Arcan. These both have already been covered on the GD preview site. Now, follow us as we look beyond the Ancient City of Arcan into the zones surrounding it, which carry much of the same magical artistic style. The Fairy Settlement is an enchanted forest where fey creatures live in the trees and roam among the sunlit glens. The Garden of Genesis is a beautiful and thriving area that houses the favorite creations of the goddess Einhasad inside of vine-covered walls and hedge-lined parks. These two places may look like they'd be good for a pleasant stroll, but beware! They're full of high-level mobs, tricky raid bosses, and dynamic environments than can change unexpectedly.

Be sure to keep going back to the Goddess of Destruction preview site every now and then, as new bosses, zones, classes and other important game features will be revealed there in the near future. Remember, the Awakening classes are for characters level 85 or higher only (you can't match a newb to a Giant, you just can't), so get in-game now and start leveling up. Also, by playing from now up to the update, you will witness the changes first-hand. Then, you can say: "I was there when the Goddess of Destruction awoke!"

Get Great Buffs from Angel Cat

We're introducing a new NPC that will be visiting the servers from time to time for special occasions. His name is Angel Cat, and although we've seen his counterpart in a past event, this one is special. Angel Cat will reward you with a buff item, sometimes up to 4 at a time, that you can keep and use when you like. When he visits, he can be found in all towns near the Gatekeeper.

The buff item, Angel Cat's Blessing, gives you the following stats: HP Recovery Bonus, Max MP, and Critical Atk. Rate +20%, and you can feel the effects of Prophecy of Water, Might, Haste, Empower, Acument, Wind Walk, Vampiric Rage, Berserker Spirit, Shield, Focus, Death Whisper, Guidance, Clarity, Wild Magic, and Concentration for 1 hour.

Please note that Angel Cat will only give his buff item(s) to one character on each game account. The item cannot be exchanged, dropped, destroyed, or shared via Dimensional Merchant. Please choose your 1 character carefully.

For his first visit, Angel Cat will be here from today until next maintenance, on Wednesday, July 6, and he is offering 2 of his Blessings to 1 character on each account. For more information about this NPC, read the FAQ on the forums.

New Maintenance Day and Times

Since the server merge, the processing time of regular server maintenance has increased, as has the time it takes to process account services. Due to these time requirements, we will be permanently extending our regular maintenance window to 4 hours. The 4 hour window is the maximum downtime expected; it is possible that a maintenance period will end before 4 hours pass.

The maintenance time of day will remain similar to what we've been seeing recently. The 4 hour maintenance window will officially become 7am to 11am Central time. As the maintenance duration will be permanently extended, we have decided to begin earlier so that it will have minimal impact on European prime-time.

Also, to streamline our weekly maintenance process with that of other NCsoft games, the maintenance day is changing from Tuesdays to Wednesdays. This change will take effect in a couple of weeks on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

NCsoft Donation for Japan Earthquake Victims

NCsoft sends its most heart-felt condolences to the victims and people of Japan. As such, NCsoft will donate 500 million Yen (approx 4.5 million Euros/3.9 million GBP/6.3 million USD) to restoration of damages in the region. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan.

NCsoft senior executive Sung Joon Park stated, "In order to support those who have suffered from the earthquake and to help restoration, we decided to donate 500 million Yen, which corresponds to one month of sales." He also added that, "We'll maintain the service with the minimal electricity and personnel. Maintaining daily life is also important; therefore, we plan to uphold the service." NCsoft's Vice-President, Corporate Communications Jaesung Lee added from headquarters in Seoul, South Korea that, "We sincerely hope Japan can overcome the current difficulties as soon as possible."

Additionally, many organizations and funds have mobilized to provide relief to those affected by the disaster. If you are interested in contributing, below are some links to charitable organizations in alphabetical order working in earnest to help the victims in Japan.

Springtime is upon us! To celebrate the new season, we are extending a gift to all players. After the server maintenance on March 15, 2011, all characters can find in their warehouse the following item:

  • Lucky Four-leaf Clover: A lucky four-leaf clover that gives a random vitality-imbued hair accessory with a random expiration timer. Cannot be exchanged, dropped, or sold. Using this item will consume it and randomly give you one of the following items:
    • Afro Hair: When equipped, gives your character the appearance of having an afro hairstyle. Grants an item-skill which replenishes your vitality as you gain experience points for 20 minutes. Re-use time is 12 hours. This item will expire in either 3 hours, 3 days, or 30 days, depending on what the Lucky Four-leaf Clover randomly produces.
    • Horn Rimmed Glasses: When equipped, gives your character the appearance of wearing horn-rimmed glasses. Grants an item-skill which replenishes your vitality as you gain experience points for 20 minutes. Re-use time is 12 hours. This item will expire in either 3 hours, 3 days, or 30 days, depending on what the Lucky Four-leaf Clover randomly produces.
    • Assassin's Bamboo Hat: When equipped, gives your character the appearance of wearing a bamboo hat. This item will expire in either 3 hours, 3 days, or 30 days, depending on what the Lucky Four-leaf Clover randomly produces.

Want to Change Your Post-Merge Character Roster?

During the server merge of October 2010, you may have had some of your characters deleted. We have preserved the deleted characters in a separate server archive space while you had time to review the post-merge results and play for a while. However, soon we must purge the archived information.

Double-check your Lineage II character roster and contact us by March 18, 2011 if you would like to request a special complimentary character restoration. After March 18, 2011, we can no longer accept requests to restore characters that were deleted during the October merge because shortly after that date the data will no longer exist.

How Can I Check My Character Roster?

Log in to your Lineage II game account and see what characters are displayed in the Character Selection Screen of each server. There may be characters that you remember having on your account before the server merge but they are no longer there after the merge because they were deleted as part of the seven-characters-per-server automatic consolidation.

Character Restoration FAQ:

  • To be eligible for restoration, the character you want restored must have been deleted by the automatic server merge consolidation process in October 2010. Characters that were at any time deleted manually by the player, or that were deleted in a previous server merge are not eligible for this restoration.
  • There is no fee to restore these characters.
  • There is no level requirement for a character to be eligible for restoration.
  • You may restore multiple characters.
  • Restored characters will be inserted into the same server region as they were on previously. For example, if you are restoring a character that was on pre-merge Franz, Luna, or Teon, it will be restored onto the existing Naia server.
  • At all times, there can only be a total of seven characters on each server. If you already have seven characters on a server where you want to restore a deleted character, you must make room for the restored character by deleting an existing character.
    • If you choose to remove an existing character so that a deleted character can be restored, you are responsible for preparing that existing character for deletion (such as mailing its items to another your characters, emptying its mailbox, etc.).
    • Once you've prepared the character, you must queue that character for deletion and leave it in that state until the restoration occurs. The character must be queued up for deletion before you send your restoration request ticket.
    • Once the placeholder character is queued up for deletion, do not change it's deletion status. While waiting for the restoration to take place, if the placeholder character is taken out of the deletion queue, the restoration process will not take place and you will be contacted via your restoration request ticket.
  • A character restoration request cannot be reversed. While multiple characters can be restored at once, there can only be one unified request and one unified batch of restorations per game account.
  • A character restoration can take up to 3 weeks from the time you make the request.
  • The deadline for restoration requests is at 10:00 p.m. PDT on March 18. Click here to see this time in your timezone.

How Can I Request a Character Restoration?

  • Create a ticket.
  • In the Subject line, enter "Restore request for server merge deleted characters."
  • In the Question box, list the following:
    • The name of the Lineage II game account in which you want a character restored.
    • The name(s) of the deleted character(s) that you would like to see restored.
    • The name of the server that each of these characters was on. Please note that a restored character will be put onto the server of the same global region as it was on before. (Characters on the old European servers will be restored onto Naia; characters on the old North American servers will be restored onto Chronos.)
    • If the character list on the server where you want a restoration is full and you are deleting one or more of your existing characters so that there is room for your restored character(s), please specify which character(s) you have queued up for deletion. When processing your restoration request, we will be able to see what characters are queued up for deletion, but it is good to double-check by asking you to list the queued-up characters here as well.
  • In the Product line, choose "Lineage II."
  • In the Department line, choose "Game Support."
  • Fill out the rest of the form and click "Continue." On the next page, click "Finish Submitting Question."

You are all done submitting your character restoration request. Please remember that a character restoration can take up to 3 weeks.

New Security Update

We are further increasing our security measures by setting up additional security questions for all NCsoft Master Accounts. This enhanced system is part of our ongoing effort to ensure a safe and secure gaming environment for you. Remember that to keep your account secure you should always use unique passwords that you do not use for email, non-official forums, or websites, and make sure you never provide your personal information on phishing websites. For additional information on security updates, read the NCsoft Support page.

New Security Feature Added

We will soon be turning on a new security feature that verifies that you are logging in to your NCsoft® Master Account with a computer authorized by you. To help prevent unauthorized access to your NCsoft Master Account, you will need to confirm your identity when you attempt to log in from a different computer.

How Does This Work?

When logging into your NCsoft Master Account, you will be prompted to answer some additional security questions. Answering these correctly verifies your identity and authorizes a one-time login. Once past the authorization, you can add that computer to a list of computers approved by you. Each time you attempt to log into your NCsoft Master Account from a different computer, you will be prompted with the security questions.

Security Questions

Your answers must exactly match those on your account, including the capitalization. These questions must be answered correctly to proceed past the authorization stage and reach your NCsoft Master Account.

If you don't remember what information you entered when you registered your account, please contact Support.

To make a PTS client:

  • Convert a copy of your live client to PTS. For this, read instructions here.
  • Or, Download the PTS client from one of our partner download sites. This option is likely to be faster than option 1.

Upon logging in, you will experience the following settings:

  • First character created:
    • Level 83
    • 2,000,000,000 SP
    • 5,000,000,000 Adena
    • Please note that if you delete your level 83 "First" character, another level 83 character cannot be created.

  • Any character created after the first:
    • Level 40
    • 100,000,000 SP
    • 100,000,000 Adena

  • Penalty time after withdrawing from a clan is 1 minute.
  • Grand Olympiad resets every 2 hours, and players can join at any time of the day.
  • The Seven Signs quest series will reset every 2 days at 5pm server-time. Hence the event period will last 24 hours, and the seal validation period will also last 24 hours.
  • Castle Sieges will be reset every 2 days, and will held on seal validation days at 12pm and 3pm server-time.
  • If at least two Territories are claimed, Territory Wars will occur on the days before castle sieges, and hence will also be reset every 2 days.

Making your character:

  • You will log in and automatically be level 83.
  • Your adena is in your warehouse.
  • In any town, talk to one of the Test Server NPCs (cats) and you can quickly click your way through the class transfers to reach your desired class.
  • You can also acquire all of your basic skills for that top class in one click, by talking to the cats.
  • The cats also sell scrolls and books that teach additional skills, which you can purchase with adena.

Bug Reports

One of the main goals of the PTS is to prevent bugs from reaching the live servers. In order to obtain the most details as possible we request you submit your bug through the in-game petition client; this will provide us with the best opportunity to verify your bug.

In your submission, please include:

  • Bug Summary
  • Steps to Reproduce
  • Location when or where bug occurred, with coordinates if possible
  • Character Race
  • Character Class
  • Character Name

Providing other information such as your hardware, how long you were playing, screenshots, and anything else that could be related is appreciated. Additional information is always welcome and very helpful to our QA team. The in-game petition client is the preferred method for bug submission.

You can read the consolidated parts 1 through 4 High Five Final Patch notes in the High Five PTS forums section. Explore the forums more to find player discussions about the High Five update and receive help if you encounter any technical issues.

Thanks again for playing on the Public Test Server!

New Goddess of Destruction Videos

Two new videos about the massive coming update, Lineage II: Goddess of Destruction have been released. In addition, new lore has been written that gives a background story to the Wizard class, featured in the second video.

Exxion
"He moves by using the energy that lives in the armor worn by Ancient Giants during battle with the gods."

Wizard

"Soltkrieg, one of the seven Giants, was highly intelligent, and he was greatly respected for his combat strategies and his ability to mastermind brilliant victories in countless battles. His intelligence also favored the basic principles of nature, and he was long devoted to his study of nature through many experiments and researches. Eventually, he was able to learn everything about all of the elements in nature, as well as the theories and logic of mana.
It was this knowledge that was passed down to the Wizards. A Wizard has the ability to raise the power of mana to its utmost limit and how to use the elements to his or her gain. Although they are at a disadvantage in combat due to their weak strength and defenses, they are able to paralyze their enemies with a variety of crippling skills and long-range magical attacks. In some situations, Wizards have a unique power to dual-cast two different types of magic at once."

Territory War Badge Insertion

After extensive testing, we are happy to announce that all Territory War Badges lost during the server merge in October 2010 are being replaced! None of the badges that have been acquired since the merge will be affected by this insertion. There is no preparation necessary for the Territory War Badge Insertion. Players are welcome to participate in Territory Wars as they like, and may claim badges from the NPC as they like. All players will receive the exact quantity and type of badges that disappeared from their quest inventory during the merge.

The insertion will be implemented during the regular maintenance on Tuesday, January 11, 2011.
